Fish in the River Aire will be able to travel to a new stretch of river thanks to improvements.

Rachel Reeves Leeds West MP visited Rodley Nature Reserve to see the ‘fish pass’ project by Yorkshire Water.

The utility company recently completed work on a by-pass channel around Rodley weir, which had been preventing fish from passing upstream since its construction during the industrial revolution.

The new fish pass provides a whole new stretch of river habitat for Yorkshire’s freshwater wildlife.

Rachel said: “Rodley Nature Reserve is a popular site for local people and this project will provide real benefits for the biodiversity of the site and beyond.”
