New Emmerdale star's wife "over the moon"
EMMERDALE'S newest farmer has revealed his real-life wife, Gavin and Stacey actress Joanna Page, is "over the moon" about his latest role.
James Thornton, who will make his first appearance as John Barton next month, also said his father-in-law gave him a history lesson about the Leeds-made show.
The Bradford-born actor, 33, said: "Jo's dad is the biggest Emmerdale fan in the world and all of her family watched it as kids.
"I recently sat down with her dad and watched an episode or two. He took me through a decade of recent Emmerdale history. If he ever does Mastermind that should be his specialist subject!"
James, who has previously starred in Holby Blue and Playing The Field, met Joanna on the set of BBC costume drama David Copperfield.
James added: "She said that was why she fell for me because I looked rugged. So the prospect of a sexy farmer appeals to her!"
James will star in Emmerdale alongside Natalie J Robb, who plays his wife Moira – and the pair will cause fireworks in the village.
James, who says he feels "at home" in the countryside, has already met many of his co-stars through his work with Leukaemia Research.
He said: "Tom Lister (Carl King] beat me by one minute in the London Marathon this year so I was a bit gutted about that. Everyone is so nice and because of that I knew that this would be a fun job to do."
