Muslim women lead the way at Leeds professional conference

Trailblazing Muslim women will be in Leeds for a conference aimed at inspiring and helping others into top professional roles.

Journalist and author Yasmin Ali-Bhai Brown and Bolton MP Yasmin Qureshi will be the keynote speakers at the event at the Carriageworks in Millennium Square on Thursday, April 14.

Called 'Shared Leadership – Raising the Voice and Representation of Muslim Women', the conference aims, say organisers, to "provideMuslim women with the leadership skills and opportunities needed to move into senior leadership positions".

The conference, part of the Government's Get Connected programme, is aimed at the public, private and voluntary sector.

The day will address the strategy behind good leadership and will include practical, interactive workshops and a masterclass on Shared Leadership.

Former human rights barrister Ms Qureshi became the first Northern Muslim woman MP at the last general election. Leeds got its first female Muslim politician, when Labour's Kamila Maqsood was elected to represent the Gipton and Harehills ward.
