Mother fears the gang who murdered son will walk free

THE mother of a Leeds teenager murdered by a mob in Leeds was in court today fearing a ruling that could see the killers freed.

Lorraine Fraser is angry that four men – who all received life sentences for the mob-handed murder – have appealed against their convictions.

They claim that because none of them was singled out as the knifeman who caused Tyrone Clarke's death, their sentences are unsafe.

As she waited to attend court, Lorraine told the YEP: "I am very uptight. I haven't slept and I have been poorly."

Appeal Court judges in London were told how the gang, armed with makeshift weapons, began massing near Coupland Street, in Beeston, Leeds, nearly three years ago.

The group split and one cluster encountered Tyrone and a friend. Tyrone, 16, and the other man ripped off bits of fencing to defend themselves.

A brief scuffle broke and soon afterwards, the group "converged".

Massively outnumbered, Tyrone was finally pinned down in Brett Gardens, Beeston, where he was stabbed three times.

Two years ago Islamur Rahman, 21, Anjum Amin and Kamer Akram, both 22, and Liaquat Ali, 17, all received life-terms at Leeds Crown Court.
