Model train enthusiasts gathered in force for a very special show.

Normanton and Pontefract Railway Modellers Society held a two-day festival of railway-related attractions.

The society’s 44th annual show at New College in Pontefract featured everything from working Lego trains to detailed models depicting the golden age ofn steam and the colourful modern railway.

The society exists to promote interest in railway modelling in various scales and eras. It was formed in 1965 in Altofts, with about 10 members. At that time, most of the members worked, or wanted to work, on the railways or were retired railway men.

One of the oldest members was Willy Eden who worked on the railways all of his life – progressing to locomotive driver, a top class well paid job in the 1930’s and 40’s. Youngest member was 13-year old Keith Shenton, who is still with the Society today.
