There’s just three weeks ago until the end of this year’s Mission Christmas – and shoppers at a Leeds retail park are doing their bit to ensure every child receives a present.

Thousands of gifts have already been donated by generous visitors to Crown Point Shopping Park, which is a sponsor of the YEP-backed Mission Christmas appeal.

Organised by 96.3 Radio Aire and Magic 828’s charity Cash for Kids, the campaign distributes presents to underprivileged children in West Yorkshire, with drop-off points located across Crown Point.

And on Saturday, Magic 828’s breakfast show host Glenn Pinder headed down to Mothercare for a special live broadcast, where he was joined by Leeds-born entrepreneur Terry George and Cash for Kids mascot Courage the Cat.

Glenn interviewed Crown Point Shopping Park staff about their support, as well as customers who were buying an extra gift and dropping it off with the Cash for Kids team.

Glenn said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated gifts on Saturday and were part of our special live Magic 828 show.

“It was a great day to be part of and fantastic to be keeping the Christmas dream alive for children in our area.”

Barclays volunteers dressed in festive onesies to attend the live broadcast and also held a collection to raise extra funds.

Terry George, a patron of Cash for Kids, said: “Mission Christmas is aimed at supporting children in West Yorkshire who are at risk of waking up to nothing on Christmas Day.

“We have already distributed more than £40,000 worth of gifts so far – but need to distribute over £400,000 to more than 11,000 local children in need.”

Mission Christmas is sponsored by Crown Point, Foresters and Benfield Motor Group and supported by the YEP.

New and unwrapped gifts can be dropped off at any store at Crown Point Shopping Park until Wednesday, December 19.

Gifts will then be distributed to deserving youngsters by social services and good causes.
