Middleton: Police plea as thugs shoot at rail workers
Repair workers on a railway line were shot at by thugs as they tried to fix the tracks in Middleton.
Detectives are hunting the culprits, who targeted the workers last week in Middleton.
A number of air gun pellets were fired at the rail workers as they repaired a stretch of track in Middleton.
Detective Constable Shaun Kenyon, the investigating officer, said the incident happened at around noon on Wednesday, November 25 when track maintenance workers were repairing the railway near to West Wood track.
He told the YEP: "Police were called after one of the workers was struck on the wrist by a pellet.
"Three youths were then spotted running away from the scene and although officers conducted a search of the local area, they were unable to locate them."
He said detectives are now asking for people to come forward with information to help catch those responsible.
DC Kenyon added: "Although the pellets did not cause any serious injuries on this occasion, hearing the gun being fired would have been very frightening for the rail workers.
"Everyone should have the right to go to work without feeling that they are in danger and we will be continuing to conduct enquiries in the area.
"I would urge anyone who saw this incident to contact police."
Anyone who was in the area between midday and 12.30pm on Wednesday, November 25 who may have witnessed or have information relating to the incident is asked to contact BTP on Freefone 0800 40 50 40 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
