Middleton all-male cheerleading group look the part

An all boy cheerleading group from Middleton will be dressed for the occasion when they appear on television thanks to a £2,500 grant.

The Dazl Diamonds Peewee Boyz cheerleading dance squad has been given the money by Aire Valley Homes.

The cash will be used to pay for new costumes, transport to and from competitions and rehearsal space.

Next month the Middleton-based all-boys group is due to appear on Channel 4's Paul O'Grady Show.

Head coach Ian Rodley said: "The support we have received from Aire Valley Homes has been amazing.

"Without its help we would never have been able to attend the International Championships earlier in the year.

"The work we do at Dazl (Dance Action Zone Leeds) is so important for young people in South Leeds, it gives them somewhere to express themselves creatively and join other young people to do something constructive with their energy."

Founded in 2000, Dazl is a community health initiative which boasts 120 members across a number of cheerleading and dance teams, including the Peewee Boyz.

In August the group's Prep Squad dancers were crowned division champions at the International Cheer Championships in Coventry.

They are now entitled to compete in the AmeriCheer International Championships in Florida next April but need to raise 30,00 for the trip.
