Police are keen to speak to this man in connection with an incident at Leeds train station.

Police are keen to speak to this man in connection with an incident at Leeds train station.

A Leeds train station worker was punched to the floor in a violent attack after trying to check someone’s ticket.

British Transport Police investigators have released images of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident, which took place just after 5pm on Saturday, May 15.

Police constable Omid Aslanbeigi, the investigating officer, said: “The victim, a 22-year-old member of station staff from Leeds was checking tickets at the barrier when a man attempted to pass through with an out of date ticket.

“When he challenged the man he was grabbed and punched in the face, causing him to fall to the floor.

“The victim was left with bruising to his face.

“Rail staff should not have to endure abuse or violence in this way for simply carrying out their job; this was completely unacceptable and deplorable behaviour.”

Officers have carried out several lines of enquiry and are calling on the public to help identify the man pictured.

Police constable Aslanbeigi added: “If you recognise this man, or have any information that could help our investigation, please contact us.”

Anyone with information should contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
