A young chef who finished runner-up on TV’s Masterchef has left his job at a West Yorkshire pub after only a few weeks in the role.

Tom Rennolds, who reached the final of the popular show in March, was unveiled as the head chef at the Craven Heifer in Addingham when it reopened following a £225,000 makeover in August.

It was a first head chef role for the 26-year-old, who had been a plasterer before finding fame and success on the BBC series earlier this year.

But despite saying he was “committed 100 per cent to making a success of the Craven Heifer” when he started, he announced on Twitter earlier this week that he had left the role.

His post read: “Parted company with @TheCravenHeifer on Thursday. Wish the team the best for the future.

“Can’t wait to get back in a kitchen very soon!”

He posted similar comments on his Facebook page and yesterday gave a sneak preview of his future plans to a follower.

When asked whether the Craven Heifer’s menu was online, he tweeted: “No idea I left last week. Should have news about the new job very soon.”

The Craven Heifer, on Main Street, was previously a Chinese restaurant and reopened its doors at the end of August after a huge investment from owners Punch Taverns.

Landlord Craig Minto, who also runs The Fleece in Addingham, said at the time: “Tom is highly skilled and I have every confidence that he can help us reposition the Craven Heifer as a destination food pub.”

Tom was due to give a demonstration at the Addingham Beer Festival last Saturday but was replaced by Mr Minto before he tweeted about his departure from the pub.

Speaking about his head chef’s sudden departure, Mr Minto said: “I had hoped it would work out with Tom, but unfortunately it didn’t.”

Tom lost out in the final of this year’s BBC1 Masterchef series to Shelina Permalloo but was happy to share the runners-up spot with fellow contestant Andrew Kojima.

He said at the time that he eventually wanted to open a top-class restaurant but revealed plans for a private dining business in the short term.
