Massive window falls nine storeys in Leeds city centre
AN INVESTIGATION is under way after part of a plate glass window fell from the ninth floor of a luxury office block in Leeds city centre.
Workers and other passers-by dashed for cover as the heavy-duty glass sheet plummeted towards the ground in City Square yesterday lunchtime.
The pane section shattered when it hit the pavement, leaving the area around the 1 City Square building carpeted with shards of glass. No one was hurt in the incident.

Today a spokeswoman for Jones Lang LaSalle, the property company which manages 1 City Square, said a "full investigation" was being carried out.
The spokeswoman told the Yorkshire Evening Post that problems with the pane had been spotted while it was still in one piece.
She said the pavement below was cordoned off as soon as it became clear that the window was damaged.
"A contractor was brought in to investigate and consider how to replace the glass but due to deteriorating weather conditions, a section of the broken pane became dislodged and fell," explained the spokeswoman.
"No one was injured as the area below was already safely cordoned off before the glass fell.
"The remainder of the broken pane will be removed as soon as it is safe to do so and protective scaffolding erected until a full replacement is possible."
It was unclear today how the glass pane - one of several surrounding the office block's external facing lift - was damaged in the first place.
The 12-storey City Square tower opened in 1997. Hailed for its distinctive round-fronted design, it replaced the high-profile site's old Norwich Union building.
