Celebrity chef Marco Pierre White has been honing the talents of a Yorkshire cooking team.
The three times Michelin star winning chef, who grew up in east Leeds, spent a day sharpening the skills of 20 chefs as part of a training programme for Warner Leisure Hotels.
Among those attending the course was Jason Wardill, executive chef at The Terrace restaurant at Nidd Hall Hotel in Harrogate and sous chef Steve Hurrell, 25.
Together they travelled to the Sinah Warren Hotel on the Isle of White, where Marco served up many of his favourite meals, including a steak, chicken and mushroom risotto using a variety of bouillon pastes and pureed herbs.
Marco, 50, who began his chef training in Harrogate, proved how easy it was to add a defining finishing touch to a dish by using both classic and modern cooking styles and techniques.
The TV chef, also famed for his two year stint presenting ITV’s British cooking reality show Hell’s Kitchen, emphasised the need for chefs cooking on a larger scale to work smartly so they can still achieve great taste, consistency and quality.
Executive chef Jason, said: “We were all very excited to meet Marco. He is so respected in the industry, it was a real honour.
“We learned a huge amount throughout the day and will certainly take away many ideas and implement them within our menus, both with cooking styles and use of ingredients.”
Rob Jenkins, general manager at Nidd Hall Hotel, added: “Our chefs were thrilled to spend a full day with such a renowned and respected chef; he is one of their heroes.
“They’ve learned new techniques and have also seen Marco’s cooking styles and top tips first-hand. It was an amazing experience and one they will treasure.”
Marco left Allerton High School in Leeds aged 16 without any qualifications.
