Man arrested in connection with Leeds canal rape

A MAN named and sought by police probing the alleged rape of a woman in Leeds has been arrested in Burnley.

David Laing Taylor, 47, of Reginal View, Chapeltown, Leeds, was arrested on suspicion of rape in the Burnley area early Friday and was later brought to West Yorkshire for questioning.

Earlier police had twice released pictures of Mr Laing who is said to have connections in the Skipton and Teeside areas.

These included CCTV footage of him allegedly drawing benefits at a post office in Burnley and also travelling on a bus in Leeds.

Officers had appealed for help in tracing Mr Laing as part of their investigations into the rape of a 23-year-old woman near to the towpath of the Leeds Liverpool Canal close to Viaduct Road in Armley, Leeds, at 8pm on Monday, July 19.
