Two men were assaulted at the end of a night out leaving one of them unconscious in the road for seven minutes, Leeds Crown Court heard.

Alistair Wilcock and Simon Andrews were both knocked to the ground when they were punched by Richard Lillyman who confronted them after following them with others in his group down a ginnel in Pontefract, John Bull prosecuting told the court.

When Mr Andrews got to his feet Lillyman continued his attack on him and it was as Mr Wilcock got up and moved towards them that he was punched from behind and knocked out by Reece Hyde.

While he lay unconscious a third member of the group, Kyle Hulme then rifled through his pockets and stole his wallet, said Mr Bull. Fortunately although Mr Wilcock had bruising and pain to the right side of his face he was not more severely injured.

Lillyman, 25, of Hyde Park Road, Leeds, was jailed for 18 months after he admitted assaulting both men. Hyde, 22, of Chequers Close, Pontefract, was jailed for 34 weeks for assaulting Mr Wilcock, and Hulme, 20, of Fryston Road, Airedale, was sent to a young offender institution for four months after admitting theft.

Judge Geoffrey Marson QC told Lillyman his position was aggravated by his previous record.

Richard Canning for Hyde said he regretted his cowardly attack after drinking to excess.
