A man riding a child’s motorcycle on football fields suffered fatal injuries after he crashed in to a railing.

The 35-year-old Pontefract man was riding a child’s Yamaha off-road motocross motorcycle on football fields between First Avenue and Wentworth Terrace in Fitzwilliam near Pontefract when the accident happened on Saturday afternoon

Police say the man collided with a horizontal metal railing just after 4.30pm.

He was taken to Pinderfields Hospital at Wakefield where he was pronounced dead.

Police want to speak to anyone who saw the motorcycle being ridden before or at the time of the collision.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact West Yorkshire Police’s Major Collision Enquiry Team on 101.
