Leeds Crown Court heard how the incident was recorded by a Leeds Watch street camera after the trio were seen acting suspiciously prior to the attack on December 4.
Charlotte Worsley, prosecuting, told the court how the takeaway driver left the engine of his Nissan Micra running on Temple View Terrace, Richmond Hill, as he went to deliver a pizza at a house.

Miss Worsley said Newton then continued the attack by kicking the driver to the body and slamming the door twice into his legs.
A 15-year-old accomplice, who cannot be named, then ran round and pushed the door into the driver's legs a third time.
The driver suffered a bump to his head in the attack but was not seriously injured.
The court heard how the stolen sat nav, worth 150, was never recovered.
Newton told police that he had only got into the car as a joke and it had not been his intention to steal the vehicle.
Brown, of Clark Crescent, Richmond Hill, claimed he had been trying to calm the situation down but was then hit by the driver.
The 15-year-old said he joined in the attack as he thought the driver was carrying a weapon.
Newton and the 15-year-old pleaded guilty to affray. Brown pleaded guilty to robbery.
Newton, of Clark Mount, Richmond Hill, was on licence from prison for grievous bodily harm at the time of the incident. He also has previous convictions for violence and robbery.
Andrew Stranex, for Newton said he had got into the car as a prank and hads not intended to steal it.
Allan Armbrister, for Brown, said his client accepted that he stole the sat nav but was not involved in the violence against the driver.
Recorder Kershaw jailed Newton for 12 months. Brown was given a 12-month community order and the 15-year-old a 12-month youth
rehabilitation order.
