A MAN has appeared in court accused of murder after a 24-year-old was found dead from stab wounds in a street in Leeds.
Bakhtiyar Mushin Omar, 28, appeared before Leeds Magistrates Court on Monday, January 13, in connection with man’s death in the early hours of Saturday morning. (January 11)
The victim was found in Lincoln Green Road, Lincoln Green, at about 2am. He was taken to Leeds General Infirmary but died a short time later.
West Yorkshire Police have said they believed the victim and the suspect were known to each other and were not looking for anybody else.
A large area of Lincoln Green was cordoned off for much of Saturday while investigations were carried out. Police found a knife while searching for a weapon following the suspected murder.
Omar, of Knowle Place, Harehills, Leeds, was remanded in custody and is due to appear before a judge at Leeds Crown Court today.
Det Supt Mark Ridley who is leading the investigation said: “Following a post mortem examination carried out on Saturday January 11, it has now been confirmed that the victim, a 24-year-old man from Leeds, died as a result of stab wounds.”
Omar was located in the Paddock area of Huddersfield and arrested on suspicion of murder.
Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone who was in the Lincoln Green Road area of Leeds at around 2.05am on Saturday to come forward with any information. Anyone with information about the incident should call police on 101
