Fire and rescue crews from Leeds, Bradford and Stanningley were called out after a road traffic collision this morning on the Stanningley Bypass.

The incident happened at about 6.40am and crews were still there at 7.30am.

A spokesman from Stanningley Station said the accident happened on the westbound carriageway near the Bramley turnoff, close to the top of the hill. One man, said to be in his 40s, had to be cut free from his car.

A fire service spokesman said: “Crews from different stations worked very well together on this job, we had to cut the roof off what was a brand new Golf in order to get to the man, who was suffering back and chest pains. He was handed over to the care of paramedics.”

No-one else was injured in the incident.
