A swan was shot in the head and killed by a thug armed with an air rifle at a pond in Knottingley.

Two women discovered the dying swan on the pond near the Turnpike pub on Pontefract Road on Sunday afternoon. They spotted a man armed with an air rifle walking away. Yorkshire Swan Sanctuary founder Dan Sidley said: “This is a shocking instance of deliberate animal cruelty.” Call Knottingley Police on 101 with information.
