Lunchtime tip on going green

LEEDS businesses are being urged to get greener in the work place by recycling lunchtime food packaging waste.

It is estimated that 80 per cent of all waste generated in an office can be recycled and food packaging waste forms a large part of this.

Now a new office recycling and collection initiative is being piloted in the city with the aim at recycling sandwich wrappers, soft drinks bottles and salad trays that are thrown away in offices every day.

Recycling sacks are issued to members that are then collected to suit the needs of the business.

The average cost for a 20 person office generating around five bags of waste per week to join the scheme would be 5.

Closed Loop Office Recycling and Collection is backed by Marks and Spencer and Solo Cup Europe. It will initially be available in four major cities Leeds, London, Birmingham and Manchester. Businesses can join the scheme at www.closedloopofficerecycling.co.uk.
