Hotspots across Leeds are contesting research that shows the city is the least loved-up place in the UK.

Leeds has been named as being the country’s biggest single hotspot and statistics show Casanova’s in West Yorkshire are likely to spend the least on their other half today.

Experts claim men in the county are cheapskates spending just £11 on their partners - compared to a wallet-busting £49 in London.

But businesses across Leeds are hoping to spread that loving feeling today.

Diners are being given the chance to recreate the ultimate romantic film scene.

Ric Harpin, general manager at Tiger Tiger, said: “Who’s never dreamt of recreating that iconic scene from ‘The Lady and the Tramp’?

“Now we’re giving the couples of Leeds the chance to do just that thanks to our fun starter to share. I have a feeling it’s going to be a very popular order today.”

Shoppers in Leeds are also being given a helping hand to find love.

Asda, in Pudsey, is playing cupid to help customers find The One by hosting a traffic light party.

Shoppers will wear numbered green, amber or red badges, depending on their relationship status, and secret admirers can leave them a love note on the store’s Valentine’s Day board.

Store manager, Neil Fairclough, says: “As a bit of Valentine’s Day fun, we thought we’d play matchmaker by offering customers the chance to pick up more than just their shopping.”

A matrimonial mystery still remains over the identity of one romantic soul who popped the question in Leeds last week.

“Michael” asked his other half “Victoria” to marry him on the special Love Wall in The Light Shopping Centre.

The YEP called on its army of readers earlier this week to try and track down the love birds in an effort to solve the romantic riddle.

And the shopping centre is still trying to solve the mystery before Valentine’s Day ends.
