More than 300 students took part in the concert at Wakefield Hospice.

A memorial concert has paid tribute to a Wakefield teacher who died following her fight with cancer.

Outwood Grange music teacher and pastoral leader Lexie Eggleston lost her battle with the disease in June, aged 60.

Hundreds of young musicians paid tribute to the former teacher, who taught at the school for 34 years.

More than 300 students took part in the concert at Wakefield Cathedral to raise almost £2,000 for Wakefield Hospice.

Her husband David Eggleston, who is deputy headteacher of the senior school at Wakefield Girls’ High, said: “Lexie was an inspirational and truly remarkable woman and school teacher who touched the lives of so many students during a long and distinguished career at Outwood Grange.

“Music however was her real passion and therefore a concert in her memory was a fitting tribute.”

Mrs Eggleston also helped raise money for worthy causes through Highwayman Cricket Club - a charity sports team, and was previously a county music advisor for the Girl Guide Association.
