Leeds United v Doncaster Rovers: Police inquiry over disturbance in tunnel
Police are investigating a disturbance as players left the pitch after Saturday’s match between Leeds United and Doncaster.
More than a dozen officers were seen to rush down the tunnel as the fracas broke out following United’s dramatic 3-2 win at Elland Road.
West Yorkshire police confirmed they were looking into the trouble but had not made any arrests.
The skirmish happened on the same day that Neil Warnock was named as new manager of the Whites.
It came after words were exchanged during the match between opposition players, including Leeds defender Darren O’Dea and Doncaster Rovers forward El-Hadji Diouf.
At full-time, an incident is thought to have taken place between Leeds’s Ross McCormack and Diouf, and Leeds defender Alex Bruce was then seen sprinting to the tunnel.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “There was a minor disturbance in the tunnel to the players’ dressing room after the game.”
He added that no-one had been arrested and there were no injuries.
“Police inquiries are ongoing,” he added.
It is believed that police kept both teams in their dressing rooms following the incident while they took statements.
Leeds caretaker manager Neil Redfearn, in charge for his last match, said: “I haven’t seen anything because I was out shaking the referee’s hand, and when I came down the tunnel there was nothing. I didn’t see anything.”
Doncaster boss Dean Saunders did not attend the post-match press conference.
A spokesman for Leeds United did not wish to comment and Doncaster Rovers were unavailable.
A spokesman for the FA said information from match officials would not be received until Monday and therefore he was unable to say anything.
