Leeds United: Kaiser Chiefs join charity game line up

Leeds United boss Simon Grayson is normally the one shouting out instructions from the touchline.

Next month, though, he'll be dancing to someone else's tune – Kaiser Chiefs bassist Simon Rix's, to be exact.

Rix will be acting as manager of a Simon Grayson XI at a match being held in aid of the Leeds Fans Remembrance appeal, it was announced today.

The United manager said: "It will make a change taking orders from someone else on a matchday.

"If things go well Simon (Rix] might even fancy my job, so I'd better make sure we don't win."

The game is being held at Garforth Town's Genix Healthcare ground on Sunday, March 7, with the kick-off at 1pm.

Its first half will see the Grayson XI taking on a side of Leeds Fans Remembrance appeal committee members and fundraisers.

Places on the pitch after half-time can be booked with a 100 per man contribution to the appeal, launched to help mark the 10th anniversary of the deaths of Chris Loftus and Kevin Speight.

They were stabbed in the Turkish city of Istanbul in April 2000, on the eve of a Uefa Cup tie between Leeds and local side Galatasaray.

Fibre optics engineer Mr Loftus was 35 and came from Burmantofts.

Father-of-two Mr Speight was a 40-year-old pub landlord from Farsley.

The appeal is aiming to raise 100,000 for Leeds-based children's cancer charity Candlelighters.
