Leeds: LazyTown's Sportacus to visit city

A TV superhero will fly into Leeds next week to lead the ultimate children's fitness marathon, and he wants his young fans to come and show him what they're made of.

Sportacus, star of hit show LazyTown, will park his airship in the sky above Pudsey to pop into Asda at the Owlcotes Centre.

And he wants to recruit 1,000 Leeds youngsters to come along and join him in a sponsored move-a-thon in aid of the Children in Need appeal.

If he can get enough young fans fit and moving next Sunday, November 15, the show will be broadcast on the BBC during the TV fundraising marathon on Friday, November 20.

Magnus Scheving, who plays Sportacus in LazyTown, will be appearing on a specially-constructed stage at the store to get local children jumping for joy.

Lucy Gowans, national charities partnership manager at Asda, said: "We wanted to do something fun at the store which would involve the local community and raise lots of money for BBC Children in Need.

"Kids love LazyTown and staying active and this is also a simple way in which they can also help a very worthy cause.

"Those who take part may also see themselves on TV, as the event will be filmed by the BBC on the day.

"We would urge parents to register their children as soon as possible to avoid disappointment."

The event is free to all, but places are strictly limited.

Anyone wishing to come to the event will need to collect a 'Let's Go' sponsorship pack at the Pudsey Asda store and register online before November 15.

Asda has raised more than 8.4 million during its many years of involvement with the annual Children in Need appeal.
