Community projects across Leeds are setting their stall out to grab a slice of a spectacular £100,000 as part of our fantastic cash giveaway.

A huge range of community organisations from festivals to baby groups are set to benefit from the giveaway, which has seen your YEP once again team up with Comic Relief and the Community Foundation for Leeds to offer cash-strapped organisations the opportunity to apply for a Sport Relief Community Cash Grant.

Grants of between £500 and £1,000 are available to small groups working in deprived areas of Leeds to make a difference to their communities.

Groups need to have a turnover of less than £100,000 and be run by local people.

Sally-Anne Greenfield, Chief Executive of Leeds Community Foundation said: “We know this money will have a really positive impact in the heart of local communities so please do start submitting your applications as soon as possible.”

Some of the city’s most deserving causes received cash in last years’ scheme.

They included the hugely popular Beeston Festival, organised by local people and attended by around 5,000 people every year in June in Cross Flatts Park.

Last year Middleton Park FC also spent a grant on coaching sessions by first aid and FA qualified coaches. The club helps get young people off the streets.

Also getting a grant last year was the Swarcliffe and St Gregory community playscheme, founded in 1986 by local residents to encourage traditional and active play for children aged four to 11 in east Leeds.

They spent money on organising a residential weekend activity away from the area.

To apply for a grant, visit: www.leedscommunityfoundation.org.uk or call (0113) 2422426 before Friday, March 9.
