Former lecturers and friends of a seriously injured Leeds College of Art graduate are aiming to help bring her home.

Holly Raper, left, who graduated from the college, in Blenheim Walk, Leeds, less than three months ago, is fighting for her life after a horrific quad bike crash in Australia.

The 23-year-old, who studied visual communication in Leeds, was riding home from work at a cattle farm, in King Island, Tasmania, when the accident happened.

Students and lecturers have organised a collective 138-mile Run Holly Home event around Hyde Park on Wednesday, to help pay for her medical treatment and flights home.

Christian Lloyd, the college’s visual communication programme leader, said: “Holly was a thoughtful, committed student who we enjoyed teaching.

“She wanted to use travel and documentary photography to show how the world truly is, and to give those who have not had the chance to travel a window into another world.”

The event, set to take place from 9am to noon, will start at the Queen Victoria statue in the park and cover a one mile circuit.

People from the college will collectively cover 138 miles – the distance Holly would cover commuting to and from her home in Brindle, Lancashire, to Leeds every week.

Holly’s ambition was to travel to Australia and work on remote farms, photographing the backpacking community passing through.

The accident, which happened on December 30, left her on a life support machine and was not covered by her travel insurance.

Friend and fundraiser, Kevin Ormisher, said: “Holly was initially given 24 hours to live; she is putting up a strong fight and is showing movement in her fingers and pain sensation in her limbs.”

Around £25,000 is needed, with her local pub in Brindle leading the efforts.
