Leeds art student's sound skit wins award
Art student Alexander Wilson is flushed with pride after his sound skit on advertising installed in the "smallest room" of a top agency scooped a top award.
The bizarre alternative to chamber music by Alexander from Kirkstall, Leeds, titled Talking to God on the Big White Telephone is a parody of subliminal techniques used in advertising.
The recording was installed in the lavatories at world famous ad group JWT's Knightsbridge offices because it gave the artist a "captive audience."
It employs a random selection of words from hypnotist Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Rich, rerecorded by a female friend of Alexander's on to a 13-minute audio loop
Alexander won the JWT prize for New Talent and a cheque for 750 after beating competition from fellow Wimbledon College of Art fine art students.
