A4MD – Advocacy for Mental Health and Dementia – offers support to those needing help in putting their case on everything from social services to their welfare entitlements.
Now money has been made available to pay for a new worker to help over-65s in mental distress come to terms with all kinds of age-related problems like isolation and bereavement.
Based in Leeds, A4MHD was originally set up in 1992 by a group of people who had themselves suffered mental illness and wanted to ensure others got a better service.
Now long established with a team of 11 staff, last year the charity helped over 450 people in the Leeds area of all ages.
Thanks to the cash injection from the Lloyds TSB Foundation, more support will be offered to older people suffering from depression, schizophrenia and other related problems.
