Good causes will be the winner when Leeds United take on Leicester City at Elland Road this Saturday.
United have announced that the fixture will be a charity-themed day, with beneficiaries set to include Leeds-based Candlelighters, Martin House Children’s Hospice near Wetherby and Brain Tumour Research and Support across Yorkshire.
For every junior and concession ticket bought for the game, Leeds will donate another to the chosen charities.
It is expected that they will end up receiving 4,000 tickets worth around £125,000 that they can then give away in raffles and other fundraising initiatives.
United’s managing director, David Haigh, said: “This is a fantastic and unique way for us to help a number of charities raise money.”
Rachel Wilson, from Brain Tumour Research and Support across Yorkshire, said: “We are thrilled to receive this support.
“This is going to benefit patients across Yorkshire and Humberside, not only by being able to raise funds by raffling tickets but by offering deserving patients and their families the opportunity for a day out at Leeds United.”
Martin House corporate fundraiser John Haigh said the hospice was “delighted” to be involved.
The Leicester game will be the latest in a series of themed matchdays staged by United this season. Previous fixtures have seen club and fans paying tribute to the work of groups including the armed forces and the emergency services.
United also won praise for an idea that encouraged supporters heading to last month’s Barnsley game to keep hold of used tickets so they could be handed over to people they saw sleeping rough.
Recipients were then able to exchange the ticket for a hot meal at Leeds’s St George’s Crypt homeless charity.
Another initiative saw supporters dropping off unwanted food items at United’s match against Blackburn Rovers on New Year’s Day for distribution to needy families via Middleton’s Leeds South Foodbank.
