His book about his worldwide travels with Leeds, Paint It White, is being turned into a professional stage play, it was revealed today.
Gary, a decorator from Kippax who has only missed one United game in more than 40 years, said: "I had trouble imagining how my book would look on stage and never thought it could be done.
"Then, when I saw the first draft it all made perfect sense – I thought it was brilliant, actually, and really funny."

Stage adaptation producer and writer Les Rowley is now searching for two men and a woman to portray a range of other characters, from coach driver to registrar and even former Leeds chairman Peter Ridsdale.
Les, who has penned a number of books about United, said: "Gary's story is remarkable – but we have to get the actors to do it justice.
"The word versatile springs to mind to describe the people we're
looking for."
He went on: "The play itself is not just about football but the relationships and exploits of the fans.
"A lot of people will relate to it, it's firmly locked in with what's happened in Leeds since the 1970s."
Experienced actors interested in joining the cast should email lesrowley@paintitwhite.co.uk.
Les is also keen to hear from potential directors.
Paint It White will have a debut run at Leeds's new 150-capacity Clarence Dock Theatre between October 6 and 30 before a regional tour in February next year.
