Traffic in Guiseley is being brought to a halt after two new stores were opened, residents have claimed.
Campaigners say they have seen an increase in traffic on the suburb’s roads since Asda Living and TK Maxx opened at West Side Retail Park.
Coun Graham Latty (Cons, Guiseley and Rawdon) said: “I am as annoyed and frustrated as anyone by the level of traffic on the A65 at any time and now, with the huge increase following the opening of these two new outlets, I wonder where it is going to end.”
Alan Elsegood, chairman of Menston Community Association, added: “The issue at Guiseley gyratory is compounded by the fact Highways decided to resurface the road precisely the time that TK Maxx and Asda Living were to open.”
A Leeds City Council spokesman said the authority had added pedestrian crossings to traffic signals at the retail park as a safety measure.
He also confirmed the council would be reviewing timings on traffic signals. A spokesman from Asda Living thanked customers and said he hoped issues would clear once the roadworks are complete.
