Childhood sweethearts Rachel Mackey and Kirk Mason are preparing for marital bliss with the help of the Yorkshire Evening Post.
The couple, who first started dating at the age of 14, are finally set to walk down the aisle after clinching their dream wedding courtesy of the YEP’s Win a Wedding competition.
Rachel and Kirk, both 35, from New Farnley, Leeds, beat off strong competition from loved-up couples across the city to scoop the fantastic £12,000 big day.
The couple, who have two children aged nine and three, are hoping to get hitched this summer at The Village Urban Resort, in Headingley.
Blushing bride-to-be Rachel said: “I was waiting for a call from the vets to find out when I could pick my kitten up from an operation when I received a call from the YEP to say we had won a wedding.
“I had to ring back to make sure it wasn’t a wind up and I still can’t believe it’s real.”
Kirk popped the question two years ago while enjoying a family holiday in Devon but the couple put their wedding plans on hold when Rachel took redundancy.
Rachel, who is now a teaching assistant at Greenhill Primary, said they can now finally start planning their dream wedding.
She added: “I just want to say a massive thank you for making us feel so special and a huge thank you to everyone who voted for us.
“My mum always said from day one that we were going to get married.
“We just knew we were right for each other and this is absolutely amazing.”
The impressive prize includes a hen party, evening reception, wedding breakfast, dresses, suits, rings, photography, car hire and flowers
This year, Jet2holidays has teamed up with the YEP to offer an incredible honeymoon at a four-star hotel in Crete.
