Super-slimmer Gillian Carbine is literally half the woman she used to be.

For the mum has shed an astonishing 12 STONES – more than 50 per cent of her body weight.

Her weight has plummeted from 23-and-a-half stones to 11-and-a-half and she has dropped six dress sizes after having weight loss surgery.

The 39-year-old said: “I wish I’d had the operation years ago. I feel like a new person.

“My life has changed completely. I have lost the weight and gained an enormous amount of confidence.”

Gillian, from Bramley, Leeds, has struggled with her weight since being a child.

Over the years, she was also beset by health problems including polycystic ovaries and womb cancer which made it impossible to shed the pounds.

The mum to nine-year-old Ryan also had a fractured vertebrae which restricted exercise and she rarely left the house.”

Eventually Gillian, whose Body Mass Index was 51 when the ideal is under 25, decided to undergo a gastric bypass at Spire Leeds Hospital in Roundhay, Leeds.

She had the operation in July 2011 and since then has gone from a dress size 26 to a 12/14.

“For the first time in 20 years I feel more confident, going swimming and trying new activities like horseriding,” said Gillian, who aims to lose another half a stone. I feel healthier and a lot better than I have for years.”

To mark their fourth wedding anniversary this year, husband Kevin carried her over the threshold for the first time – she was too heavy before. I feel like life is worth living now, whereas before it wasn’t,” she said.

Her surgeon Abeezar Sarela said: “Gillian has done exceptionally well to lose half of her actual weight and this reflects her firm commitment to modify her diet and lifestyle.”
