Meet green-fingered Amelia Hirst - who at just seven-years-old is believed to be the UK’s youngest allotment holder.

The youngster from Pudsey first got her taste for growing her own produce when she accompanied dad Paul to her family’s plot at the age of two.

She began by digging out flower beds but was soon planting her own crops and this year begged her dad and mum Beth for her own patch of land.

The year two pupil is now growing her own way as the registered renter of her very own £57-a-year allotment in Bradford.

Beth, 38, said: “She absolutely loves being at the allotment. Rain or shine, summer or winter, she wants to be down there, getting muddy.

“She’s never really been a girlie girl, she’s more of a tomboy, likes getting mucky.

“She’s always so excited when she brings home something she’s grown herself. She loves cooking too, she loves to peel all the vegetables she’s grown and cook with all the fresh produce.”
