He’s become something of an internet sensation.

But the Cassani family’s chickens aren’t too keen on their new housemate.

Kristofferson the fox has taken to Skype and his journeys have been tweeted by his adoptive Leeds family all in the name of art.

The stuffed fox was spotted in a wheelbarrow, has had a trip to the park and has even been into a primary school.

But now he is set to leave Abigail and Andrew Cassani’s home in Calverley after spending two weeks in their hallway.

The family decided to take in the fox, which is part of Leeds City Council’s Artemis collection, as part of the I Love West Leeds Festival’s Get Stuffed project.

Mum Abigail said: “We have chickens and recently lost three of them to foxes so we thought it would be quite fitting to take in the fox for a few weeks.

“We were really excited and our two sons thought it was brilliant and just loved it. It feels like we have had him a long time and he’s even Skyped to my friends in Armley.

“We’re going to miss him when he goes back because he’s become part of the family.”

Theo, 10, said that he enjoyed taking the fox into school and classmates asked him if it was real.

His brother, four-year-old Jem, added: “I’ve liked watching television with him.”

Families across west Leeds were given a selection of taxidermy animals – including a pangolin, a barn owl and a puffer fish – to rehome as part of the project.

They had professional portrait shots taken with the animal which came complete with their own education pack.

The shots will be on display alongside the animals at Armley Mills from Saturday. (July 7)

Jane Earnshaw, organiser of I Love West Leeds Festival, added: “It has really exceeded all my expectations. Everyone has taken the animals to their hearts and they have taken them to places I would never have imagined.”

I Love West Leeds culminates at Pudsey Park on Sunday.

Attractions include garden sheds of artists and a nine-foot-tall Scotsman and his naughty dog.
