Leeds's Ideas That Change Lives project searches for new ventures

A scheme to encourage people to come up with "Ideas That Change Lives" by setting up community enterprises is searching for new social ventures.

It is offering start-up funding of 10,000 and business support to people who come up with the brightest business ideas to improve the lives of special people in Leeds – older people, people with a physical disability or sensory impairment, people with a learning disability and people with mental health needs.

The six best ideas will win the funding and support to turn them into reality. Ideas can be submitted up to the end of September.

The Ideas That Change Lives project is being spearheaded by successful

Leeds social entrepreneurs Rob Greenland and Gill Coupland, pictured, both of whom have extensive experience of setting up and supporting Leeds-based social enterprises.

It is part of the Keeping House project, an established Leeds City Council initiative which aims to help people to live happily and independently at home.

Gill Coupland said: "We live in an enterprising city and we know that there's a wealth of untapped talent in communities across Leeds.

"Ideas that Change Lives is all about unlocking this talent and giving it a head start while supporting people who could benefit from well-run services. We'd encourage anyone with an idea – even if it's at a really early stage – to come forward and we'll do our best to help you make your idea come alive."

A "Festival of Ideas" event will also be held on October 5 where people can discuss their business ideas in person, meet other entrepreneurs and receive expert advice on how to develop them.

The event will also give participants the opportunity to learn from leading business guru and author Robert Ashton.

In December, 12 finalists will be selected to pitch their ideas to leading business figures and social care professionals and the six best social enterprise ideas will be selected.

To submit ideas, visit www.ideasthatchangelives.org.uk; Email: info@ideasthatchangelives.org.uk; Phone: 0113 318 8685; Or go to at the Festival of Ideas on October 5 at Hillside Business Centre, Beeston, Leeds.
