Leeds Rhinos: MP calls for ‘Sir’ Kev gong

Kevin Sinfield.

Kevin Sinfield.

A Leeds MP has tabled an Early Day Motion suggesting Kevin Sinfield should be given an honour for his services to rugby league.

Leeds North West Liberal Democrat MP, Greg Mulholland, the chair of the All Party Parliamentary Rugby League Group, put forward the EDM on yesterday’s Sir Kevin Sinfield day, one chosen by the club to mark his 10th anniversary as captain of Leeds Rhinos.

“I was delighted to be able to pay tribute to Kevin Sinfield in Parliament for his 10 incredible years as the inspirational captain of Leeds Rhinos as well as playing for and captaining his country,” said Mr Mulholland.

“It has been a remarkable period for the Rhinos, who since naming Kevin as the youngest captain in the club’s history in 2002, have reached seventeen major finals, including winning a record breaking six Grand Finals.

“It is only right that Kevin’s success and contribution is recognised and that is why I have written again suggesting him for an honour and I hope it won’t be long before we are referring to him as Sir Kevin Sinfield three hundred and sixty five days a year!”
