Leeds Rhinos annual awards 2012: Zak and Ryan the top stars

  • by Peter Smith

Ryan Hall and Zak Hardaker swept the board of major honours at Leeds Rhinos’ annual awards night. (Sept 12)

Full-back Hardaker was named Yorkshire Evening Post Shooting Star and was also the first winner of the Cravendale fans’ player of the year award.

Hall was the Gala Casinos Rhinos player of the year, with Jamie Peacock in second and Hardaker, third.

And the Dream Team winger picked up the Leeds Building Society try of the year prize for his touchdown against Widnes Vikings last month – pipping scores by Hardaker against Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and London Broncos.

The Shooting Star award hails the player, aged 24 or under, who has made the biggest impact during the current season.

Hardaker’s prize – a unique, framed YEP back page produced to mark his achievement – was presented by Evening Post competition winner Michelle Rodd.

Hardaker pipped skipper Kevin Sinfield by just one vote, out of more than 1,000 cast, for the fans’ honour, with Brett Delaney in third place.

Youth boss Barrie McDermott was named clubman of the year, Thomas Minns was under-18s player of the year and Aaron Brown took the under-20s Chris Sanderson memorial trophy.
