A DAD today told of the dramatic moment when an out-of-control car smashed into his house in Leeds.
Ibrahim Alhammadi, 45, was asleep in bed when the white Volkswagen Scirocco slammed through his living room wall shortly before 7.30am yesterday. (October 9)
The car had come off Green Hill Road in Armley, hitting a bus stop before it careered across a small grassed area and then took out the side of Mr Alhammadi’s house.
It came to rest on a paved driveway to the rear of the property, which looks out onto Stanningley Road.
Firefighters had to cut the motorist, a man aged in his early 20s, free from the car.
He was yesterday in hospital with injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening.
Mr Alhammadi, a student who lives in the house with his wife and six children, said: “When I heard the sound of the crash at first I thought there had been a gas explosion. We were very lucky that no-one was hurt.”
Engineers were yesterday (October 9) carrying out structural checks on the three-storey home.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash to contact them on 0845 606 0606.
They are particularly keen to speak to the driver of an Autoglass van who was in the Green Hill Road area at the time of the incident and may have seen it happen.
