Imogen Johnson, events manager, said: "This year Cancer Research UK's Race for Life is going to be full of amazing moments for everyone – from lining up at the start, side-by-side with thousands of other women, to reading the inspirational 'back-signs' worn by participants to the fantastic sense of achievement from crossing the finish line.

"Women of all ages, abilities, shapes and sizes take part take part in Race for Life.

"They motivate and inspire each other to complete the 5k course. Many simply walk round, chatting and having fun but they all share the wonderful atmosphere at the event."

Race for Life started in 1994 and has now become the UK's largest women-only fundraising series of runs.

Since then more have been added every year and in 2010 700,000 women will take part in over 230 events between May and July.

It is hoped they will raise a total of 60m to fund Cancer Research UK's lifesaving work which could help the 70 people who are diagnosed with cancer in Yorkshire every day.

Last year the charity spent nearly 7m last year on research in Leeds, including researchers at the University of Leeds investigating new combinations of chemotherapy in people whose bowel cancer has become resistant to initial treatment.
