Leeds pupils put Paralympic double gold medallist to the test in playground race

Inspiration and excitement were on the timetable for Leeds pupils when Paralympic double gold medallist David Stone visited their school.

The cycling ace from Rawdon showcased his world-class skills – and his gold medals – to youngsters at Ireland Wood Primary in Holt Park.

The school is well resourced for children with disabilities, many of whom have cerebral palsy like David.

Ten-year-old pupil Solomon Londsale, who has the condition, said meeting the local sporting hero had inspired him to aim for Paralympic cycling glory.

He added: “I’m very proud of him.”

The sports star was awarded the MBE after winning two golds at the Beijing Paralympics in 2008.

He went on to do the double again in the road race and time trial events at London 2012.
