Leeds pub explosion: Casualty latest

All of those hurt in the blast suffered minor injuries and one man stayed in hospital overnight, St James's said today.

One of the injured, Katherine Cutler, 25, of Garforth, needed seven stitches after she was hit on the head by a brick.

She was in the hospital car park with her accountant husband Andrew, 26, when the blast happened.

He said: "I was walking through the car park to the pay machine and I can remember thinking, 'it smells weird around here'. I didn't realise it was gas at the time.

"The machine was out of order and the signs said to try another one at the other side of the pub. So Katherine went back to the car and I headed to the machine.

"Then there was this loud bang and I saw the roof lift off. I started running for cover as fast as I could and so did Katherine.

"But the air was full of bricks and tiles and I can remember thinking 'I'm never going to outrun this'.

"I fell to the floor and luckily, I came off okay. Then I heard Katherine scream and I went to find her.

"She and another bloke were behind a car and they were the most badly injured. I just got her into A&E as quickly as I could.

"She'd been hit on the head by a brick. She's got stitches and big bandage on her head and a few bruises as well, but other than that, she seems okay."
