A pervert was found to have more than 800 indecent images of children on his computer after a raid on his home in Leeds.

West Yorkshire Police were alerted to Dennis Brown’s home on Ullswater Crescent, Woodlesford, following an investigation by colleagues in Gloucestershire.

Leeds Crown court heard information was received that an innocent website had been “hijacked” in order for people to access illegal images of children.

Investigations uncovered a number of internet addresses linked to the site, including Brown’s.

A search warrant was executed at his home and a lap top and computer tower was seized.

A total of 840 vile pictures were found, including images of children being raped. The court heard 66 of the images were at level 4 - the second most serious category.

In interview Brown said his interest in the images began when he began to look at drawings of children before he progressed to looking at pornographic pictures.

Brown was interviewed and made full admissions of his involvement in downloading the images. He pleaded guilty to 11 offences of making indecent images of a child.

Michael Walsh, mitigating, said: “The real affect on Mr Brown is the shame he has brought upon himself and members of his family.”

Mr Walsh said Brown still remained with his wife but their relationship had become strained as result of the offences. The court Brown’s employment would also suffer because of the convictions.

Mr Walsh said Brown was sorry for his actions. He added: “He has no compulsion to spend time repeating the behaviour that he became involved in.”

Judge Rodney Jameson made Brown the subject of a three-year community order with a requirement to attend an intensive programme designed to address his offending.

He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for five years and made the subject of a sexual offences prevention order banning him from working with children.

The judge said: “Images of levels three and four are of children being raped. The reason that happens is that people think they can make money out of them by selling them. If it wasn’t for people like you there would not be a commercial market for these images.”
