Leeds pensioners' free lunch treat

Whoever said there's no such thing as a free lunch?

Dozens of pensioners at Morley Town Hall enjoyed just that thanks to food charity FareShare West Yorkshire.

The charity, which redistributes surplus and donated food to underprivileged groups, provided the food which was then Cooked up by city-based catering and training organisation The Create Foundation.

The event was the brainchild of Morley councillor Terry Grayshon and supported by the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Coun Judith Elliot, in partnership with Morley Elderly Action.

Coun Grayshon said: "The weather recently has been awful. It has beendifficult for everyone to get about.

"Itcan much more difficult for those who are not as young as they used to be. When I heard of FareShare, I knew that it would be able to help those residents in Morley who need a bit of help and support."

Pensioners enjoyed a lunch of hearty homemade soup, Mediterranean pasta with chicken and homemade cakes.

During the bad weather, Fareshare also provided food to Morley Elderly Action which was able to distribute it to needy senior citizens in the town.
