PR consultant Phylecia, 25, met her husband, 23, who works for Yorkshire Water, when he went to stay with family friends to get some work experience in Atlanta, Georgia.

She said: "When we got married we were unable to go on honeymoon because I was still sorting out my status as a UK resident and we couldn't really leave the country so it would just be fabulous to win the competition.

"We're both ready to give up our jobs and travel the world for a year so we're keeping our fingers crossed we will win. We normally have to travel on a very tight budget so this would be our dream come true. "

The couple, who got wed at Otley Parish Church in August 2009, had to make a video explaining why they thought they were the perfect couple to win the "Ultimate Job" as honeymoon globetrotters and where they would choose to go on a romantic break in Ireland.

Their choice was Bru Na Boinne, an ancient archaeological site on the Irish border in County Meath.

At stake is a job writing articles on luxury destinations all over the world for the Irish Times newspaper and thousands of pounds in prize money.

In all, more than 30,000 people from 90 countries entered the contest, including applications from Australia, the USA, South Africa, Russia, Malaysia, mainland Europe and Asia.

Deadline for voting as the list of hopefuls is whittled down to the final 10 is midnight tomorrow and Phylecia and Edward will be keeping their fingers crossed.

And, even if they don't win, Phylecia says she could not be more content despite having swapped the constant sunshine of Atlanta for the more robust weather of the Yorkshire Dales.

"I couldn't believe how cold it was when I first arrived here but now think it's absolutely beautiful.

"We are surrounded by absolutely stunning countryside and every weekend Eddie and I try to get out to enjoy the scenery. "
