A mum has been jailed for more than three years for carrying out a callous knife attack on her long term partner.

Donna Marie Bell, 25, laughed as she picked up the largest knife she could find and plunged her victim in the neck after a row at their home in Leeds.

Bell carried out the attack after head butting him during a drunken row.

He rang police after she hit him over the head three times with a kitchen bin but she stabbed him before officers arrived.

The violent attack was witnessed by the couple’s eight year old son.

Bell, of Balmoral Chase, Hunslet, Leeds, was jailed for three years and nine months after pleading guilty to wounding with intent.

Leeds Crown Court heard the attack happened on September 21 last year after the mother-of-four argued with partner Scott Morrison.

Bell head butted Mr Morrison as they rowed over ‘something and nothing’. Mr Morrison rang the police after she struck him with the bin and she used the knife strike him three or four times.

The court heard Bell deliberately aimed for his neck and laughed. He suffered a cut to his neck and one to his hand as he tried to defend himself.

After the attack, Bell described the relationship with her partner as “terrible” and said the couple had only been together for their children.

The court heard Bell has previous convictions for violence

Marlon Grossman, mitigating, said his client had suffered a number of mental health problems.

He said: “This was a young woman who, for many years, coped badly.”

Jailing Bell, Recorder Sophie Drake said: “Very fortunately for him and for you, the injury to his neck was not as serious as it could have been.

“You appreciate that you could have caused him greater harm - even worse than that.”
