Leeds man jailed for sex abuse of girl

JAILED: James Giles, sentenced after admitting sex offences against a youngster.

JAILED: James Giles, sentenced after admitting sex offences against a youngster.

A judge praised the bravery of a young sex abuse victim whose evidence against the pervert who attacked her was crucial in bringing him to justice.

James Giles was given a 10-year extended prison sentence after a judge branded him a danger to young children.

Giles, 22, of Bruntcliffe Road, Morley, was handed the sentence yesterday after pleading guilty to four sex assaults on a child under the age of 13 and one of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

A court heard a report into Giles’s behaviour made troubling reading as he expressed a sexual interest in children and that he was excited by things which were taboo.

James Giles was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court yesterday after admitting carrying out the offences against the youngster last year.

The young victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was praised by Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC for her very clear account of the abuse. The judge said her complaint to her mum and subsequent police interview had made the prosecution of Giles much easier.

During the investigation samples from Giles’s fingernail clippings were found to match the victim’s DNA.

The judge jailed Giles for seven-and-a-half years for the abuse, but said he would

have his licence extended by a further two-and-a-half years because of the danger he posed.

A report said Giles admitted having an obsession with sex from a young age.

The judge added: “In my judgement you pose a significant risk of serious harm to

children if given the opportunity to be in their company alone.

“In other words you are a very real danger of abusing, or worse, little children.”

Giles was also ordered to go on the sex offenders’ register for life.
