Leeds Make A Dream gala dinner proves a hit

Celebrities, heroes and fundraisers were at a Leeds charity gala in a bid to make dreams come true for needy kids.

News reader Sir Trevor McDonald OBE and controversial funnyman Jim Davidson OBE were guest speakers at the 15th sell-out Make A Dream dinner.

Soldiers from Catterick Garrison praised the comic who pledged to donate his fee to The British Forces Foundation – a charity which he formed 10 years ago.

Jim told the YEP: "When I found out this was for charity I thought I can't charge for charity, but then I said let's compromise."

Captain Tom Prideaux, of Harrogate, who is from the 4th Mechanized Brigade (The Black Rats), said: "It's fantastic that Jim is giving his fee to such a worthwhile cause."

The Captain is training for Afghanistan alongside Corporal Susan Wilson, of Selby, who was also at the event which raises more than 100,000 each year to make dreams come true for Yorkshire's sick and terminally ill children.

The annual dinner at Leeds United Conference and Exhibition Centre also featured entertainment from Stavros Flatley who starred in ITV's Britain's Got Talent.
