You’ve heard of Fifty Shades of Grey – now get ready for Fifty Shades of Guiseley.
That’s the home town of Barbara Elsborg, a housewife-turned-author whose novels have been flying off the shelves with the help of the sex factor.
Mum-of-two Barbara has sold around 100,000 books since a publisher advised her to make her romantic tales more raunchy.
And her latest release, Strangers, is now being considered by a London producer for possible adaptation into a film – just like multi-million selling literary sensation Fifty Shades of Grey.
Barbara began writing when she was a schoolgirl but struggled for recognition until she was approached by American publisher Ellora’s Cave in 2007.
“They advised me to think about adding sex to my storylines and then they would sell,” said Barbara. “So I did, and ever since my books have been selling successfully.”
Barbara has had 27 novels published digitally, with 15 of them also being made available in paperback.
Her books have titles such as Girl Most Likely To, Anna In the Middle and Doing The Right Thing and feature “quirky heroines and bad boys”.
She also says her writing exploits have been encouraged by her “sexy, devoted and wonderful” husband, Anton.
